    About GigKiln

Why GigKiln exists, who runs it, how it is funded, and how we keep our editorial independent of sponsors.

    Who runs it

GigKiln is published by Kiln Guides Ltd (UK company registration in progress). The site is built and edited by Scott Jones, founder of Kiln Guides Ltd and previously trading as FTJ Designs. Scott has spent the last decade working across digital product, regulated content, and UK gig economy research. Every guide is written, sourced, and signed off in-house. There is no PR team, no offshore copy farm, no AI-generated wallpaper.

FTJ Designs remains the registered data controller for personal data collected through this site (ICO registration ZC127003) until the Companies House registration of Kiln Guides Ltd completes and the ICO record is transferred. See our privacy policy.

    Why it exists

UK gig workers — Uber drivers, Deliveroo riders, Amazon Flex couriers, Just Eat drivers, Stuart riders and the rest — get the worst of two worlds. The platforms treat them as self-employed but give them none of the explanation that a normal employer would. The good tax, legal and rights advice usually sits behind professional paywalls or in 60-page PDFs written for HR managers.

GigKiln translates the actual UK rules into the language a tired driver at the end of a shift can read. HMRC manuals, statutory instruments, FCA handbooks, council fee schedules, tribunal rulings — turned into guides, calculators, letter templates and crisis pathways. No paywall. No login required. No data sale.

    How it is funded

GigKiln is sponsor-funded with category-exclusive sponsors — for example, a single hire-and-reward insurance partner at a time, a single accounting partner, a single PCO finance partner. Sponsors pay to appear in clearly-labelled "Paid placement" slots.

    • No affiliate links.
    • No data sale.
    • No comparison-table monetisation.
    • No sponsor approval over editorial copy.
    • No sponsors on safety pages or women's-hub crisis pages.

    Editorial independence

Sponsors never see drafts. Sponsors never edit copy. Sponsors never appear on safety, women's-hub or worker-submission pages. We do not rate, score or rank named platforms. We label opinion as opinion. The full policy is in the editorial code, and GigKiln is held to the Kiln network's Reader Charter.
