    Requirements

    • Aged 18 or over, with most hire and reward insurers wanting 21 or over.
    • Full UK driving licence held for at least a year, right to work confirmed.
    • A 5 seat car or small van in MOT condition.
    • Continuous SD&P cover plus hire and reward, or a carriage of goods for hire and reward add-on.
    • Smartphone running the Amazon Flex app.
    • Pass criminal record and driving history checks.

    Realistic earnings

Amazon's £14 to £18 an hour advertised rate holds in the North West. 2025 r/AmazonFlexUK posts quote 3 hour base blocks at £48 to £52 and 4 hour blocks at £62 to £70, with surge blocks occasionally pushing £20 an hour equivalent during peak. Liverpool has a compact dense inner core with strong short-distance block potential, while longer runs out to Wirral, Sefton and further into Lancashire can overrun. Net take-home after fuel, insurance and wear realistically lands £11 to £14 an hour for careful Flex drivers and drops to £8 to £10 an hour on badly chosen long-distance rural blocks.

    Busiest times and areas

Amazon operates delivery stations serving Liverpool and the wider North West. Station codes and catchments shift, so check the Amazon Flex app for the nearest depot and what blocks it is currently releasing rather than rely on a Facebook screenshot from last year.

    Local costs

    • Liverpool does not currently run a Clean Air Zone for private cars or vans, so Flex drivers here avoid the daily charge that Birmingham, Bristol and Sheffield carry.
    • Hire and reward top-up insurance in Liverpool postcodes runs £900 to £1,400 a year on top of SD&P, higher for younger drivers and postcodes with elevated claim rates.
    • Parking in the centre and on terraced streets in Anfield, Kensington and Toxteth catches drivers out during match days and event nights.
    • Fuel sits near the national average.

    Local support

    • Union coverage: IWGB Couriers and Logistics branch nationally, GMB North West for Amazon-specific organising and ADCU for drivers who also do private hire.
    • Debt advice and tax help: StepChange, Citizens Advice Liverpool, Business Debtline for self-employed debt and HMRC Time to Pay on 0300 200 3822.
    • Legal support for deactivation: Leigh Day, Bates Wells and North West employment firms for tribunal cases. Standing appeals follow the Flex app or email first, then escalate to jeff@amazon.co.uk.
