    • Smartphone running the Deliveroo Rider app.

    Realistic earnings

City centre bike and e-bike riders report £12 to £16 an hour in a good evening rush and £9 to £10 an hour off-peak. Mopeds cover a wider radius and can see £13 to £17 an hour gross, but Clean Air Zone charges and fuel pull the net down for non-compliant machines. On Reddit and local Facebook groups riders describe Birmingham as slightly quieter than Manchester or London outside the central ring road. The 2025-26 pay floor of £12.30 plus vehicle allowance is a per-order estimate, not guaranteed hourly pay. Check Deliveroo's local rider support page for any zone-specific hiring caps before investing in kit.

    Busiest times and areas

The city centre, Bullring and Digbeth pull most evening orders. Selly Oak and Edgbaston are busy student zones during term. Moseley and Kings Heath work well for local lunch and dinner. Friday and Saturday evenings 6pm to 10pm are the best blended bet. Peak patterns shift, so cross-check with local rider groups.

    Local costs

    • Birmingham Clean Air Zone (Class D) charges non-compliant cars £8 per day and non-compliant vans, taxis and minibuses £8 to £50 per day depending on category, inside the A4540 Middleway ring road, 24/7. Check your number plate on the government vehicle checker before riding a moped or car for delivery.
    • Motorcycles and mopeds are exempt from the Birmingham CAZ charge as of April 2026, which favours scooter riders over car drivers in the city centre.
    • Bicycles and e-bikes are always exempt.
    • Motor delivery insurance in Birmingham typically £1,200 to £2,200 a year.
