    Realistic earnings

On an e-bike in central London, riders on r/deliveroos report £14 to £18 an hour in a good Friday or Saturday dinner rush, dropping to around £9 to £10 an hour on quiet Tuesday afternoons. Across a whole week most people report £13 to £16 an hour gross. Deliveroo's 2025-26 pay floor works out at £12.30 an hour plus a vehicle cost allowance for estimated order time, but that is a per-order calculation, not a guaranteed hourly rate. Moped and car riders often gross slightly more but lose the extra to fuel, insurance and ULEZ. Tips in London add roughly £1 an hour in good zones. Deliveroo does not show riders a percentage commission; you see the full offer before you accept.

    Busiest times and areas

Peak is Thursday to Sunday evenings, roughly 6pm to 10pm, plus Friday and Saturday lunch. Zones with the densest restaurant clusters are in central zones and around Soho, Shoreditch, Canary Wharf and Clapham. Actual zone performance changes week to week, so check Deliveroo's in-app busy indicator and ask in your local rider WhatsApp or Telegram group rather than trusting old TikTok videos. Boosts (extra money per order) appear in the app when Deliveroo wants more riders in a zone.

    Local costs

    • ULEZ covers all London boroughs. A non-compliant moped or car is £12.50 per day, every day you ride. Check your number plate on TfL's ULEZ checker before signing up.
    • Bike and e-bike theft is the biggest cost for cycle riders. Budget for two decent locks and contents cover.
    • Motor insurance for food courier work in London often sits at the top of the £1,500 to £3,000 national range.
    • Parking tickets for mopeds on red routes and loading bays can eat a full evening's pay.

    Local support

    • Union: IWGB Couriers and Logistics Branch is the most active London rider union.
    • Women's services: Rights of Women advice line, plus Hestia for local domestic abuse support.
    • Debt advice: StepChange, Business Debtline, Citizens Advice London.
    • Tax help: TaxAid for income under £20,000, LITRG for self-employed tax questions.
