    Requirements

    • Age 18 or over with right to work in the UK.
    • Eligible vehicle: bicycle, e-bike (250W EAPC), scooter, motorbike or car.
    • UK bank account in your name for weekly payments.
    • Smartphone with data, running the Deliveroo Rider app.
    • For any motor vehicle: valid driving licence, V5C, MOT where required, and hire and reward or food courier insurance. A standard private policy does not cover paid delivery work under the Road Traffic Act 1988.
    • No council PHV licence and no DBS. Food delivery is outside the taxi licensing regime.

    Realistic earnings

Manchester is one of Deliveroo's top five UK markets by order volume and bike riders in the city centre often report £13 to £16 an hour gross on a Friday or Saturday evening. Off-peak drops this to £9 to £11 an hour, especially in suburban zones. E-bike riders on r/deliveroos tend to sit around £13 to £15 an hour blended across a normal week. The 2025-26 Deliveroo pay floor of £12.30 per hour plus vehicle allowance applies to order time estimates, not to total logged-in time. Moped riders can earn a little more on distance but give much of it back on fuel and insurance. Deliveroo does not charge a percentage commission; fees are per offer.

    Busiest times and areas

The city centre zone around Deansgate, the Northern Quarter and Oxford Road pulls the most orders on evenings and weekends. Salford Quays and MediaCity are smaller but decent for lunch. Fallowfield and Withington are strong student zones during term, especially late on weekdays. Verify current hotspots with the in-app busy map and local rider groups rather than static lists.

    Local costs

    • Manchester does not currently operate a charging Clean Air Zone for cars or mopeds. The original 2022 plan was paused in 2024. Check Manchester City Council's air quality page before planning, as the scheme may be revised again.
    • Tram track cycling is a crash risk in the city centre. Budget for two decent locks given ongoing bike theft.
    • Motor insurance for delivery work in Manchester typically £1,200 to £2,200 a year depending on age and vehicle.

    Local support

    • Union: IWGB Couriers and Logistics Branch covers Manchester and is active on deactivations.
    • Women's services: Manchester Women's Aid for domestic abuse, Rights of Women national line.
    • Debt advice: StepChange, Business Debtline, Citizens Advice Manchester.
    • Tax help: TaxAid (low-income helpline), LITRG self-employed guides.
