    Frequently asked questions

Common questions from UK gig workers and PHV drivers about GigKiln, our funding, our editorial process and the legal basics.

    Why UK only?

Gig work rules are national: HMRC tax bands, the Equality Act, the 1976 Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, ACAS deadlines, Universal Credit. We would rather get one country right than half-cover several. If you drive or ride outside the UK, this site is not for you.

    Is this legal advice?

No. GigKiln is general guidance, written carefully and sourced to gov.uk, primary legislation, regulator publications and union research. It is not personalised legal, tax or financial advice. For anything with money or visa consequences, get a qualified professional — we link to free options like ACAS, Citizens Advice, TaxAid and the IWGB / GMB / ADCU.

    How is this funded?

Category-exclusive sponsors only — one accountant, one insurer, one PCO finance brand at a time. No affiliate links, no per-click commissions, no data sale. Sponsors do not see articles before publication and cannot edit them. See /how-we-are-funded and /editorial-code for the full policy.

    What's a limb (b) worker?

Section 230(3)(b) of the Employment Rights Act 1996 defines a "worker" who is not an employee but is also not genuinely self-employed. Limb (b) workers get holiday pay, the National Minimum Wage, rest breaks and discrimination protection. Uber drivers, after the 2021 Supreme Court ruling, are limb (b). See /glossary for more.

    Can I reuse your content?

Yes, with attribution and a link back. Tools embed freely. Don't strip the disclaimer or pretend you wrote it. Full reuse policy at /copyright.

    How often are guides updated?

Every page shows a "Last reviewed" date. We re-check tax-year-sensitive pages every April, regulator pages whenever a consultation closes, and platform pages whenever the operator changes terms. Spotted something stale? Email create@ftjdesigns.co.uk.

How do I correct a mistake you made?

Email create@ftjdesigns.co.uk with the URL and what's wrong. We log every correction with the date and what changed in the page footer. We do not silently edit substantive errors.

    Who writes this?

Scott Jones, founder of Kiln Guides Ltd (the publisher of GigKiln), with input from working drivers, riders and union reps. Full editorial team and process at /about and /editorial-code.
