Methodology
This tool assumes:
- Test period is 66 weeks before the expected week of childbirth; you must have been employed or self-employed in at least 26 of those weeks.
- Average weekly earnings of at least £30 are required in any 13 of those 66 weeks.
- 2025-26 max MA rate: £194.32/week (or 90% of average earnings if lower); minimum £27/week for self-employed not paying Class 2 NI in 13+ test weeks.
- Paying Class 2 NI for at least 13 of the 66 test weeks unlocks the full standard rate.
- MA can be paid for up to 39 weeks, starting up to 11 weeks before the due week.
